Having directed The Last Christmas Carol for Licking County Players many years ago, Mel Spring welcomed the idea of having the Pickerington Community Players premiere my latest play, The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Condominium Association, Inc. (I guess he must be a glutton for punishment.)
PCP was a theatre company Mel founded in 2006 so that he would be able to work closer to home. By coincidence, one of the board members of PCP, Mary Lou Kunkler, and I had worked together in the early ‘nineties, and I had assisted her in founding a local animal rescue group.
The “home” of the Pickerington Community Players was the Violet Township Grange Hall, which was also used for weekly church services and occasional Grange meetings that we had to allow for when conducting rehearsals and building the set. It was a challenge at times, but the rather “quaint” building proved to be adequate for our needs.
Although I have been around theatre for several decades, now, I had never acted in a show. In fact, I was not at all favorably disposed towards doing so. I view myself as a writer, first, foremost, and always. Acting is for others – those who are so inclined. However, Mel prevailed upon me to take on the smallest role in the show and I finally agreed. But, as they say, there are no small roles, only small actors – and at 6’4” inches I am anything but a “small” actor.
The rest of the cast consisted of William Hernandez, Adam Schroeder, Elise Meyers, Michael R. Donoghue, Jarred Raines, Diane Hooper, Ciera Howell, and Karen Haueise. For additional photos by Jeannie Cochran, check out PCP’s website: http://www.pickeringtoncommunitytheatre.org/sleepy_hollow.php
